2023 Lingyange Summer Chip Design Internship Camp Draws to a Successful Close

On August 14, the closing ceremony of the 2023 Lingyange Summer Chip Design Internship Camp (hereinafter referred to as the "Internship Camp") was successfully held at the headquarters operation center of Lingyange. Over 30 interns from various parts of the world, as well as representatives from the Lingyange management team and university research institutions, attended the ceremony in person. Additionally, four locations including Zhuhai, Shenzhen, Shanghai, and Hsinchu were connected online to celebrate the official conclusion of the 2023 summer chip design comprehensive internship training camp for Lingyange

This Internship Camp officially kicked off on July 10 and lasted for one month. Thirty-three college students from 19 universities at home and abroad, including Macau University, Macau University of Science and Technology, Zhuhai College of Science and Technology, Tongji University, University of California, Santa Barbara, University of California, Irvine, University of South Florida, and others, participated in this Internship Camp.

As of 2023, the Lingyange Internship Camp has held over three summer internship camps targeting college students/graduate students for basic chip design process training and career development guidance. The camp also recruits outstanding potential talents. This year's Internship Camp received support from the Semiconductor Industry Association of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Deep Cooperation Zone, Huafa Group ASEZ Base, Zhuhai Advanced Integrated Circuit Research Institute, Zhuhai University of Science and Technology-Lingyange Chip Technology Joint Laboratory, and other entities. The camp has made progress in terms of the scale of participants, course content, activity formats, and intern development, creating a training curriculum system for basic engineers in chip design based on integration of industry, academia, and research that helps develop talent in the chip design field in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The Lingyange Summer Internship Camp brought together industry experts and senior professionals in the chip design industry. The main instructors were over 20 senior experts from various core departments of Lingyange as well as partner companies that closely collaborate with Lingyange. They provided comprehensive knowledge of the entire chip design industry chain, work experience, and career development guidance. The course was planned by the Lingyange R&D management team. In addition to lectures on integrated circuit professional knowledge, there were also comprehensive project exercises, industry news reporting, patent writing, financial management, and other comprehensive knowledge learning. During the nearly one-month immersive classroom experience, interns had in-depth project practice discussions and interactive exchanges with experts, enhancing their industry understanding and exercising their innovative and practical abilities in a versatile manner.

With the support of the Semiconductor Industry Association of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Deep Cooperation Zone, Lingyange conducted an integrated circuit enterprise visit activity during the camp. The interns visited representative chip design companies in the deep cooperation zone such as Xinchou Technology, Guangdong Yuefjø Technology, Zhuhai Advanced Integrated Circuit Research Institute, Billion Artificial Intelligence (Zhuhai), Jiachuang North (Zhuhai) Technology, Yifu Tongji Technology, Zhuhai Miaochun Technology, and Guangdong Jiangxiang Xinchuang Technology. Lingyange hopes to create a talent development platform for industry partners to cultivate basic talent for the industry and promote healthy development of industrial talent cultivation. Many Lingyange interns had in-depth discussions with integrated circuit companies in the deep cooperation zone and were invited to further internships and career development opportunities at these companies.

Wang Xiaotong, an intern from Macau University's electrical and computer engineering department who is currently a senior undergraduate student, shared his thoughts on the camp. He said that he had learned a lot from the experts at Lingyange who generously shared their knowledge. Through the courses provided by the camp, he gained an understanding of the entire process of chip design, manufacturing, packaging, and testing and established a clearer concept of the chip industry chain. He also worked with team members on project tasks during the camp and built valuable friendships. The camp also influenced his career development plans. He plans to further solidify his mathematical and circuit foundations, gradually establish his own technical stack, improve his core skills, and strengthen his determination to pursue graduate studies and doctoral programs in chip design.

The Internship Camp's chip design development proposal report was a comprehensive assessment for each team. Five teams composed of interns from various parts of China competed on stage to present their project execution plans in terms of technical content, time management, division of labor, budgets, and other key elements execution plan that compete with each team. Finally , the first prize award was obtained from Hsinchu " Changwen chaodaohu " team by excellent perfomrance.

Dr. Chen Zhongxing, a senior industry expert and consultant of Lingyange, said that the Lingyange Research Camp has gained widespread social recognition and influence in recent years, which is inseparable from the huge sense of mission of Lingyange, which regards developing chip talents and serving the chip industry as its major social responsibility. Currently, it is the best period for the development of China's chip industry. We encourage the students to join the chip industry, and suggest that while learning professional knowledge, they should also improve their comprehensive abilities and professional qualities simultaneously, so as to adapt to the industry changes in the new era.

Dr. Pan Shaoheng, a guest teacher from the University of Macao, said that he was impressed by the valuable learning resources provided by Lingyange in a short period of time, which provided rich industry entry knowledge training and opportunities to broaden the horizons of the semiconductor industry. He was very pleased to see the active participation of Macao's university students and hoped that they would put what they had learned into their future studies and work. He also welcomed the graduate students to come to the Lingyange Joint Laboratory of Chip Technology at the University of Macao Science and Technology Research Institute in Zhuhai for learning and exchange

Pan Xinxin, a guest of Zhuhai University of Science and Technology, said with deep feeling that Lingyange had established a research and learning cooperation base with Zhuhai University of Science and Technology earlier, which had received the attention and support of the college. In the past three years of practice, she saw the significant promotion of the research and learning camp on the employment development of students, which had formed an excellent complementary effect with the microelectronics professional education in school.

Albert Li, CEO of Lingyange and founder of the study camp, expressed his gratitude on behalf of the company to the partner universities and enterprises for their strong support for the study camp, to the students for their trust in Lingyange, and to all the experts for their hard work. Albert Li said that when Lingyange was established, the study camp work was launched simultaneously, and the mission of "actively training chip design engineers for the industry and solving the problem of insufficient professional talents in the domestic chip field" has been carried out all the time.

After three years of development, the Lingyange study camp system, under the leadership of the technology management department and with the full participation of various departments, has been iterated into a comprehensive training course with high technical content, as well as scientific and practical application. The study scale has also been continuously expanded with its universality. With the attention and support of all sectors, the Lingyange study camp will become a banner for cultivating chip design talents in the Bay Area, and empower the development of talent "core" ecology in Qinhuangdao and Macao.
