Lingyange : Tri-city collaboration and integration of production and education to explore new ways of talent cultivation in semiconductors

The lecturer gives a lesson to the graduate students

On July 4 , Zhuhai Lingyange Semiconductor Inc.(hereinafteer referred to as Lingyange) simultaneously launched the second summer chip design training camp activities at its Zhuhai headquarters, Shenzhen branch, and Shanghai subsidiary. The company combines the development of the semiconductor industry with professional talent cultivation, explores new mechanisms for cultivating semiconductor talents, and cultivates more outstanding professionals for the industry.

At 9:00 a.m., the second summer chip design training camp of Lingyange officially opened. 29 college students from 17 universities at home and abroad, including Jilin University, Shanghai University, Shenzhen University, Zhuhai College of Science and Technology, Macau University of Science and Technology, University of Macau, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and UNSW Australia, participated in the camp.

According to the schedule, this training camp runs from July 4 to July 29 , with a total of 4 weeks of learning time. It offers 34 courses, including topics on the semiconductor industry and global trends, chip design and manufacturing processes, DSP (Design Service Platform) business scope and technical areas, common IoT wireless technologies, as well as professional English reading, communication skills, and project bidding. The course instructors come from senior professionals in Zhuhai, Taiwan, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Yantai, the United States and other regions.

Lingyange Semiconductor Incorporated, Zhuhai

It is understood that Lingyange was established in Zhuhai in 2020. The company's main business is to provide high-end chip design services, mass production services, and system module design services to domestic IC design companies. It can also utilize the integration channels of Foxconn Group to provide sales services.

Lingyange has a tri-city layout in Zhuhai、Shenzhen、Shanghai. It takes advantage of Zhuhai's location policy advantages, Shenzhen's talent innovation advantages, and Shanghai's semiconductor industry clustering advantages to quickly integrate into the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and Yangtze River Delta regions. The company also reaches out to the rest of the country, continuously growing and expanding.

Since its establishment, Lingyange has made it one of its missions to "actively train basic engineering personnel in chip design and solve the difficulty of insufficient semiconductor and professional talents in China". In 2021, it launched the first training camp for students.

Students focus on listening

According to market feedback and the needs of college students for professional learning, Lingyange started the registration process for the second summer chip design training camp at the beginning of June this year. The camp recruits college students or recent graduates majoring in electronic information, microelectronics, integrated circuits, computers, business administration, financial management, and other related majors. In less than a month, over a hundred college students applied. After screening, 29 students were ultimately selected as trainees.

Hu Yu just graduated from Jilin University's electronic information engineering major this year. She has been accepted into Macau University's ECE (Electrical and Computer Engineering) program for graduate studies. Under the recommendation of her advisor, she and two other graduate students from her group signed up for the Lingyan阁training camp. Hu Yu said that her undergraduate studies were mainly based on book knowledge, and she did not know much about the semiconductor industry. She hopes to deepen her understanding of the industry through participating in the training camp to accumulate knowledge for her graduate studies and potential employment in the semiconductor industry after graduation.

Li Zhi is from Heilongjiang University's integrated circuit design and integration system major and is currently a senior student. His dream is to become an outstanding engineer. Li Zhi learned about Lingyange's recruitment of trainees through online channels and signed up immediately. He said that he will not be taking the postgraduate entrance exam next year and plans to choose employment instead. He hopes to gain a better understanding of the development trends in the semiconductor industry through participation in the training camp and figure out what kind of work suits his major.

Lingyange products

According to statistics from the World Semiconductor Trade Statistics Organization (WSTS), global semiconductor sales reached US$555.9 billion in 2021, representing a year-on-year increase of 26.2%. China's integrated circuit industry sales reached RMB1.04583 trillion in 2021, representing a year-on-year increase of 18.2%. With the growth in sales revenue, the talent gap in the semiconductor industry is also continuously expanding. According to the "China Semiconductor Industry Talent White Paper," as of the end of 2019, China's direct personnel engaged in the semiconductor

On one hand, college students lack of understanding of the industry and anxiety about employment, while on the other hand, the industry has an urgent need for talents. There is an information asymmetry between supply and demand, and it is difficult to link theory with practice. There are obvious pain points between university education and industrial development.

Students understand the development history of Lingyange

As a chip design service company, Lingyange is well aware of what kind of talents the industry needs. It hopes to carry out a study camp to enable students to combine theoretical knowledge with practice, understand the current status and development trend of the semiconductor industry, and deepen their understanding of the semiconductor industry. At the same time, it hopes to use its professional and technical advantages to create practical opportunities for college students, build a bridge between university education and industrial development, and jointly build a good ecosystem for talent cultivation, so as to deliver more high-quality talents to the industry. Lingyange firmly believes that only when the industry ecology is good can enterprises achieve rapid development.
