Domestic alternatives aimed at mainland Chinese chips accelerate efforts in three major chip design areas

Speaking from the name of LYG, Albert Li, who was born and raised in Taiwan, China and received a traditional Chinese education, is very familiar with Chinese history and nature, "LYG is the place where Li Shimin of the Tang Dynasty displays his 24 portraits of meritmen. The reason why our company is named this is also to contribute to the chip industry and become a hero."

LYG was founded in 2020, and has attracted many senior R&D and management personnel in the industry since its establishment. Mr. Albert Li is also one of them, before joining LYG, he worked for many years in semiconductor leading companies such as TSMC.

According to reports, when it comes to the establishment of LYG, CEO Albert Li said frankly, "The establishment of LYG is because Foxconn attaches great importance to the entire mainland semiconductor industry." In Foxconn's semiconductor industry, the mainland part belongs to the whole industrial chain, from design to manufacturing has a layout. As a design company, LYG assumes the role of connecting the whole industry."

As we all know, since 2018, the United States has strongly led a crackdown on China's semiconductor industry. In order to break through the US blockade, domestic replacement has become the common expectation and goal of people in the Chinese mainland semiconductor industry. CEO Albert Li revealed that LYG was also established with an eye on the considerable future domestic replacement market for semiconductors in mainland China. From an industrial development perspective, LYG clearly focuses on three areas of chip domestic replacement, namely, high-performance computing chips, automotive chips, and biomedical chip development and design services.

First, high-performance computing chips. When LYG was established in 2020, it was already more clear that high efficiency computing power would take off around 2023, which would become the first wave of domestic replacement. We also see that the country attaches great importance to the launch of the East counts West computing plan, and the chip demand for efficiency computing power is great. From the ability of LYG, it is also in order to meet the domestic demand;

Second, automotive chips. As the global OEM leader, Foxconn Group around 2020, has seen the rapid development of automotive electronics, will become a key industry, began to follow the international automakers, from the development of IP core layout, IP design also takes two to three years;

Third, biomedical chips. This is a long-term goal, LYG believes that the biomedical chip will begin to take off in 2025, so it began to layout in advance. As a very forward-looking field, biomedical chips require long-term investment.

After explaining the consideration of LYG to lock in the above three areas, CEO Albert Li particularly stressed that "high performance computing, automotive electronics, and biomedical chips, there is an inherent logic and strong correlation between the three industries and technologies."

Specific performance, in a broad sense, automotive electronics can be expanded into high-reliability electronics, future technology extension, can be used for high-speed rail, aviation and space exploration of these two major fields, most of the current are occupied by foreign products, so domestic substitution has a greater demand and space. In addition, there is also an inherent correlation between high-performance computing chips, automotive electronics and biomedical chips, and the neural network and brain-computer interface in biomedical chips also need to be efficient in signal processing. And when the human body is implanted with electronics, it needs high reliability, and high reliability is stricter than that of cars.

As a start-up that has been established for more than three years, LYG has achieved initial results in three key areas:

First, in the field of high-performance chips, LYG was commissioned by the enterprise to design some IP of efficient computing power, and orders were saturated when it was established. At this expo, in the field of high-performance computing, LYG displayed the latest AI accelerated board. According to the introduction, this is the world's first Chiplet architecture based GPU chip based on the cooperation of LYG and its customer Blue Ocean Intelligence AI accelerated computing solution, including the innovative Chiplet system architecture design, ultra-low power consumption, high-speed serial interface, support for OpenCL and mainstream AI framework model and other technical highlights. At the same time, the speed board also has great advantages in energy saving, which can meet the system needs with about 1/3 of the overall cost of HBM2 and 80% of the energy consumption. At present, this board card combined with ultrasonic algorithm, applied to tumor judgment, low cost, high computing power, reduce the HPC data analysis time.

Automotive electronics, in 2022,LYG launched 40nm RISC-V automotive microprocessor reference design platform. The platform has three highlights: modular design, analog IP, and compliance with vehicle regulations. It is also the "star product" at the Nanjing International Semiconductor Expo. The use of open source RISC-V technology also implies the internal demand for product autonomy and control;

In the field of biomedical chips, LYG is jointly developing a new generation of ultrasonic imaging diagnostic acceleration system with Zhuhai UM Institute of Science and Technology, that is, using a new ultrasonic imaging algorithm, based on the microscopic scattering structure of tumor tissue cells, to help distinguish liver diseases or benign and malignant tumors, shorten the medical image processing time, and improve real-time diagnostic capabilities.

From its inception to today, three years, LYG's product line has been basically constructed, which is largely due to the company's strong self-research ability. "This is due to our technical team, who have 15 to 20 years of experience in analog design and large chip design," said Albert Li .

In addition to chip design capabilities, CEO Albert Li repeatedly mentioned the service function of LYG in the interview, which is to help customers enter the market through the mastery of chip needs.

"As a chip design company, we may usually do whatever we can, but LYG on chooses high-performance computing, automotive electronics, and biomedical chips because resources need to be concentrated in order to make an impact.
